Project - Sunroom
For this discerning, yet budget minded couple, the problem was to turn a little used and claustrophobic screened porch, into an inviting year-round space. After discussing their wishes for the project, SBC designed a sun drenched room that is “More window then wall”. Tall windows and a sill as low as practical made this quite corner a perfect blend of inside and outside for this growing family.
To cure the cramped feeling we raised the ceiling to the roof and used tall narrow windows to give a sense of height. Super-insulated walls and roof, on-demand heat, and a pendant ceiling fan all combine to make the space as energy stingy as possible. In addition, by orienting the “Low-E” casement windows to catch the prevailing breezes the room remains comfortable even with the sun shining. Last but just as important was that this room blend with the rest of this 1920’s home. Careful door and window trim and a period bead-board ceiling give this “new room” a timeless and integral look.
